Tax at Smoky Mountain CPAs
Most firms meet your taxes in April.
We watch them all year.
Two licensed CPAs prepare and file your business and personal returns. And because we keep your books tax-ready all year and set your tax money aside as you go, there is no March cleanup and no April surprise.
What your return costs depends on what is in it.
A sole proprietor with one Schedule C and a single state is a different job from an S corporation with two owners, rental property, and a K-1 in the mix. We read last year’s return first, then confirm your price in writing before any work starts, so nobody is surprised later.
Things that move a quote: additional K-1s, 1099s we issue on your behalf, more than one state, rental properties, more than one business, unfiled prior-year returns, or a return that arrives materially more complex than last year’s did.
Every return we file, including return-only work, carries $1 Million Tax Audit Defense at no extra cost.

Most tax money is lost in the two weeks before a decision, not in April.
A filing, or the whole picture
How we do taxes differently
Most tax prep is archaeology. Once a year, someone digs through twelve months of history and tells you what it already cost you. Ours works differently for one simple reason: the same CPAs who file your return also keep your books.
Your books feed the return
No shoebox in March, no 40-question organizer. Your return is built from books we reconciled every month all year, so nothing gets missed and nothing gets guessed.
We watch it move, monthly
When profit jumps or you buy equipment, your tax picture just changed. Because we see it happen, we flag the move worth making while there is still time to make it.
Advice with a number on it
Not a newsletter. Every recommendation comes as a specific move, a dollar value, and a deadline, so you can decide in one conversation.
$1 Million Tax Audit Defense
Every return we file carries audit and notice representation up to $1 million, federal and state, handled by licensed CPAs, enrolled agents, and tax attorneys. Identity theft restoration comes with it. You do not buy it separately and you do not ask for it. It is in the price.
And you always know where your return is. Every client gets a live tracker from documents-in to filed-and-accepted, the same way you track a delivery.
The monthly relationship
Or never think about any of this again
The monthly plans put your books, your returns, and your tax picture under one roof, with your returns included. One flat monthly price, no per-form charges, no April invoice. Every return we file carries $1 Million Tax Audit Defense.

Tax is one third of the system
The return is what we file. The reason it comes out right, and the reason April is quiet, is the two things running underneath it all year.
Accounting & bookkeeping
Books categorized, reconciled to the bank statement, and CPA-reviewed every month. That is why our returns start from real numbers instead of a March cleanup, and why you get a P&L you can actually use in between.
Pay yourself first
Brooks is a Certified Profit First Professional. The cash system sets aside profit and taxes before you spend, so the tax money is already sitting in the tax account when the bill comes, not a scramble.
Just want the return and nothing else? That is genuinely fine. Plenty of clients start there, and the prices above are the whole story.
Answers before you ask.
What do you need from me to start a return?
Last year’s return and this year’s documents. We send you one short checklist, you upload everything once, and the tracker shows you the rest.
Is the quote the price I pay?
Yes. We confirm it in writing after we read last year’s return, before any work starts. If your situation turns out to be more involved than last year’s, you hear the number first, and nothing proceeds until you have agreed to it.
Do I have to move my bookkeeping to you for the monthly plans?
Yes, and that is the point. The quarterly numbers, the estimates, and the planning all work because we keep the books they come from. Return-only clients keep their own books and we prepare from your records.
I already have a tax preparer I like.
Then keep them. We work alongside good preparers all the time and refer clients to them. This page is for owners who do not have one, or whose taxes and books have never talked to each other.
How late can I start and still make the deadline?
The honest answer depends on your entity and how clean your records are. Send us last year’s return and we will tell you the same day whether we can file on time or whether an extension is the smarter move. An extension is a filing deadline, not a payment deadline, and we walk you through what to pay with it.
Do you handle personal returns without a business?
Yes, through the Individual Tax Membership: your return prepared and filed, a mid-year checkup with a withholding review, and we handle IRS letters if they show up. We quote it after reading last year’s return, and rentals or K-1s are handled inside the same membership.
Ready when you are
This year’s return, or the last April surprise
Either way it starts the same: send us last year’s return and we will tell you exactly where you stand. Already have an accountant? Here is what switching actually involves.
